Wrong again, oh Lily dear
Let’s hear another, loud and clear
She speaks again, this time unsure
Wrong again Lily, you silly girl
I’m always wrong, she thinks inside
Though she answers again, she is hurting inside
Wrong again child, the teacher scornfully says
Why can’t you ever get it right in your head?
Lily’s head drops, her eyes start to tear
I’m a failure, she mutters, thinking no one can hear
Yes you are right, her teacher cruelly replies
You can’t do anything right, and wipe those pathetic tears from your eyes.
Lily sits down, a broken look on her face
The joy that had been there was woefully replaced
By what exactly, it is hard to describe
Yet something became broken, deep down inside
